Mission Statement

The West Point Society of Greater Houston (WPSGH) is a nonprofit Corporation organized primarily for the benefit and support of its members, support of the Greater Houston community, support of our alma mater, and to foster and promote the ideals of Duty, Honor and Country that are the foundation of the United States Military Academy at West Point.

Vision

The West Point Society of Greater Houston is one of the largest and most active West Point Alumni Societies in the United States. We want to serve our members by being the resource in the Houston area to stay connected to West Point and support as many activities as possible through our programs, our foundation and the local parents club of West Point to help the academy produce leaders of character to serve our nation as Army Officers and community leaders.

Strategic Goals and Objectives

The .WPSGH’s goal is to support the mission of West Point and our community by:

  • Graduate Support

  • Widow Support

  • Family Members Support

  • Cadet Support

  • Admissions Support

  • Civic and Community Activities

  • Providing a channel to continue service to our nation

  • Supporting the Academy Distinguished Graduate Award

  • Supporting the WPSGH Distinguished Graduate Award

  • Continue to earning the Distinguished Society Award (currently more than 25 consecutive years in a row)

  • Attending when possible the Alumni Leader’s Conference

  • Conducting an Outstanding Business to Business support program to help empower professional success

  • Provide mentoring opportunities to other graduates when possible

  • Conducting Luncheon Meetings that help us connect to West Point and the local community

  • Providing a model Outreach Program to assist our members as needed

  • Providing Support for Our Parents Club

  • Supporting a model Foundation to conduct worthwhile programs with an emphasis on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) programs

  • Supporting Local and National Veterans programs as appropriate

  • Supporting any other programs deemed worthy to enhance West Point as approved by our Board of Directors

Leadership and Committees

We are organized as a non-profit Corporation. Articles Two and Three of our Bylaws define in great detail our Organization, the Board of Directors roles and responsibilities.

Article Six of our Bylaws establishes that we have 9 Committees. They are:

  • Governance Committee

  • Society Outreach Committee

  • Society Activities Committee

  • Business Committee

  • Membership Committee

  • Admissions Committee

  • Finance Committee

  • Communications Committee

  • Society Support Committee

Communication Channels

We use the following methods of communication with our members:

  • Our website (wpsgh.org)

  • Social Media (our Facebook page)

  • Our email communications using the AOG TX 3 list

  • Word of Mouth

  • The new Sally Port and Gradlink programs developed by AOG

Fundraising and Membership

We are a non-dues paying membership. As defined in Article 4 of our Bylaws, we have 4 categories of members. They are Honorary, Regular, Associate and Special.

We support fundraising activities for our society primarily through our Founder’s Day Gathering and by contributions. We also support AOG fundraising activities as appropriate.

  • Our B2B (Business to Business) Networking Group

  • Family Social Events such as Astro Baseball games

  • Parent Club Activities

  • Luncheon Events

  • Represent West Point in admission support in the community

  • Local Veterans Activities and Parades

  • Camp Hope

  • Benny Haven’s Hours

  • Other Activities as deemed appropriate by the Board of Directors

The Strategic Plan of the WPSGH is approved and adopted by the Officers of Board of Directors currently serving on 22 May 2021 and will remain in effect until otherwise modified or rescinded.
